Music From Both Sides of the Pond

Life out in the Bay Area is about community, creativity, and a supportive vibe that resonates no matter which side of the pond you’re at.

These artists provide the soundtrack to the Bay’s heartbeat  -  a little bit soulful, a little bit funky and always a little different from what everyone else is doing.

Today we’re featuring music vids from a few of our favorite Bay Area artists – Do D.A.T, Melina Jones, Joyo Velarde, and the Jazz Mafia.  A sampling of our community for you to enjoy…. happy Friday!

“The Bridge” Do D.A.T. ft. Melina Jones from FreshVibe Media ® on Vimeo.

Ok, this vid has been on heavvvy rotation as of late.  Something about Melina’s carefully crafted lyrics and Do D.A.T’s wordplay makes for a song that you can listen to over and over again and yet find something new every time.  Read 38th Notes blog on this vid –  an excellent write-up by Coolhand Luke.  We hail from the City but we’ve got love for you Oaktown.

Joyo Velarde “Take You Home” from Quannum Projects. Video produced by MYX Music Label.

Joyo Velarde, amazing songstress with a set of pipes like you’ve never heard before, and our girl crush since like foreeeverrr, is finally releasing her album on February 16th.  Damn girl, you kept us waiting!  We’re excited to give it a listen and to celebrate with her at Roll Call at SOM Bar next Friday, which she’ll be hosting with Honor Roll for her album release event.

Stevie Wonder Jamming With Jazz Mafia at Coda

Jazz Mafia is something of a local SF institution.  You know they’ve gotta be heavyhitters when Stevie goes on stage unannounced to jam with them.  Jazz Mafia is a collective of jazz bands – from a hip hop jazz symphony to an electronic funk jazz band.  Catch them at their  residency at Coda in the Mission District, and download the Jazz Mafia sampler here.
